Plymouth Hoe
Plymouth Hoe is located in the city centre overlooking Plymouth Sound with its own significant place in history. Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls on the Hoe when the Spanish Armada was seen approaching to invade England. The Hoe has not changed since the 1880’s and is now a recreational area that is enjoyed by the city locals as well as tourists. It has a marvellous Victorian sea front with Victorian architecture, bars, outside swimming pools, diving boards, Citadel fort, Smeatons tower and the famous Tinside swimming pool that has recently been restored to its original glory. It is a central hub for events in the city throughout the year including the National Fireworks Championship, Class 1 World power boat championship, Music of the Night, Plymouth Regatta, Sutton Harbour classic boat rally, finishing line for the Fastnet sailing race, marathons, charity events, afternoon open-air concerts, shows, Guy Fawkes bonfire night and New Year celebrations.
